INDONESIAN POST IN THE DUTCH OCCUPATION ERA

The first post office in Indonesia was established on August 26, 1746 by the Governor General G.W. Baron van Imhoff. The initial purpose is to secure all letters especially by the traders from outside Java island and also to provide services between Ned.Indie [Red.: Now is called Indonesia] and Nederlands.

A temporary horse shelter for a postman. The function of this place also to refresh the horse before proceed further to another lace. The horse will be maintained also on this place or even as a stable of the horse.
Before the era of stamps, an express letter was using a chicken feather - white or black. White (left) means the letter should be delivered before dark and Black (right) means the opposite - at the evening or night.
The postman (right) bring the express letter and should handed over the letter on an obsequious attitude toward the recipient (right).
