FEDERATION OF INTER-ASIAN PHILATELY [F I A P] This federation was founded on March 10, 1974 in Singapore. This is because the location is very strategic to the other members. One of the founder is Mr. Suryadarma from Indonesia. Suryadarma is former Commander in Chief of Indonesian Airforce and the first Chairman of Indonesian Philatelists Association after occupation era by Dutch and Japanese. The presence of this federation was recognized by the Government of Singapore on September 14, 1974. Nine founders of FIAP are Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, Iran, Thailand, Hongkong, Malaysia, India and Vietnam. As per 1996, the total member of FIAP is 25 countries. Every member should pay an annual fee approximately 100 US dolars. This amount is always reviewed by the FIAP Congress and the total payment of the annual fee is sometimes based on the ability of the economic development of every members. At least 11 Congress has been done by FIAP in several countries, including in Surabaya, Indonesia that was done in 1993 - the same occasion when the first international (FIAP level) called Indopex'93 was done on May 29, 1993.
