$50,000 offered in mailman holdup

Bergen Record - Friday, February 19, 1999

U.S. postal inspectors are offering a $50,000 reward for
information leading to the arrest of a man who robbed a
letter carrier at gunpoint in Paterson and fled with $18
cash.

The carrier was not injured in the Feb. 11 robbery, which
occurred while he was delivering mail at 660 E. 26th St.

The carrier, a 52-year-old Iselin resident, was approached by
two men. One brandished a semiautomatic pistol and
demanded money. The carrier handed over his own money.
The bandits got no mail.

During the fiscal year ended in October, there were 161
robberies of carriers nationwide -- three in northern and
central New Jersey. In the previous year, there were 226
robberies.

Anyone with information about the Paterson robbery
should call (201) 714-6300.
